These Flower Sugar Cookies are soft, buttery vanilla cookies decorated with delicate royal icing flowers, perfect for spring celebrations, parties, and special occasions.
Ingredients
For the Sugar Cookie Base:
- 2¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Royal Icing Flowers:
- 3 large egg whites (or meringue powder equivalent)
- 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (pink, yellow, purple, green)
- 2–3 tablespoons water (as needed)
Instructions
1. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
2. Add egg and vanilla extract and mix until combined.
3. Whisk flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture until just combined.
5. Wrap dough and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
6. Preheat oven to 375°F and roll dough to ¼-inch thickness.
7. Cut into round shapes and place on lined baking sheets.
8. Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are set.
9. Cool cookies completely before decorating.
10. Prepare royal icing and tint with food coloring.
11. Pipe flower designs using petal and leaf tips.
12. Allow icing to fully set before storing.
